The
2003 TCTECA Championships logo prominently features "The Golden
Boy". Manitoba’s Golden Boy was placed atop the Provincial
Legislative Building on November 21, 1919 and remains one of Manitoba’s
best-known and most beloved symbols.
In 2002, the
statue was removed, totally refinished, and replaced atop the Legislative
Building. Queen Elizabeth II then officially unveiled it in October
of 2002. The Golden Boy’s sheaf of grain represents the fruits
of labour. The torch he holds high in his right hand calls on the
youth of Manitoba to join in the pursuit of building a more prosperous
future. The Golden Boy faces north, looking toward Manitoba’s
rich natural resources in mining, fishing, forestry and hydroelectricity. |
